Union @ PIK Avenue - Newest hangout spot in PIK
Pantai Indah Kapuk area has just become more interesting with the opening of Union in PIK Avenue. It is the 3rd Union franchise establishment in Jakarta after Plaza Senayan and Pondok Indah Mall 3. This place has the same concept with it's two previous branches, with a classic early 20th century design. However, what makes it different with other branches is that there are a few food items in the menu that only available in this branch, such as Nasi Babi Garing, truffle Kway Tiauw, Ube Velvet cake, etc.
We came here only on the 3rd day of it's opening, on a Monday, and it was packed! Wow! Luckily it took us only 20 minutes to wait for a table.
Moving on to the food & drink, our orders were :
1. Black truffle bacon kway teow with truffle jam
This one is awesome! the kway teow has a nice soft texture, very well cooked. The truffle jam is very nicely mixed with the kwayteow, and gives a nice texture and flavor to the dish. However, a bit of downside on this dish is the bacon. They serve the bacon on a big dice form, so there are mostly fat on the bacon served in this dish. If they add more meat to this dish, we might give a 10 out of 10 rating 😝
2. Duck confit pomegranate w/ creamy leek mash
The duck is actually cooked perfectly, but the seasoning is a bit weak. The sauces on the plate also doesn't mix well with the duck meat. One positive note for this dish is the mash; it's soft and really good.
3. Garlic cheese fries
This dish is basically french fries with their house-made garlic cheese sauce. This one is pretty good as the cheese sauce helps to escalate the taste of the french fries.
4. Corn latte
We ordered this menu because we saw a picture of this corn latte on a tent card at the bar, and of course because we need coffee since we were very sleepy because of all the food we ate 😃. Surprisingly, this latte taste good. It has shredded corn inside, with corn flakes and corn candy on top. We think it's save to say that this corn latte is corny sweet 😝
5. Ube Velvet Cake
This cake is just as good as Union's other cake, or maybe even better! We take away this cake and eat it at home btw because we felt so full already 😜
All in all, we think that Union PIK is a very nice place to hangout and have a nice meal. The menus that only available here are worth to try. We are thinking to come back later to try the Nasi Babi Garing because we tried to order that but unfortunately it was sold out 😕. Mr Bacon's rating for this place is 4 out of 5 BACON which is BACONLY GOOD.
If you're planning to come and visit this place, Ms. Button suggests you to wear a nice semi-formal outfit because this place has a very classy interior and a lot of nice spots for picture taking (bar, kitchen, walls, even the outside of the restaurant).
