Coffee & brunch at St.Ali Family

St.Ali is a coffee shop & roastery first started in Melbourne in 2013, and they finally open their first global establishment in Setiabudi, Jakarta. We have put this place in our Cafe to-go list for a while now, and finally we have the chance to visit this place.Yippie!😂

The place itself is not like any other coffee shop that we have ever seen in Jakarta. What differs this place is the coffee bar which is really open, so anyone can see how the barista are making coffee, and for me this open-bar concept is an invitation for customers to come and talk to their baristas.

From the decoration, how table and chairs are placed in this place, and the hospitality of the servers and baristas, it's clear that this place is designed for customers to feel casual, not intimidated when coming here, and make some new friends here. Luckily that day Ms.Button was wearing a very casual outfit, t-shirt and skirt, which is a perfect fit for this place.

As we have a few other places to go to that day, we decided only to order one meal and one drink each to share :

• Hot Latte : this latte is very good. The thickness of the foam is perfect, the espresso is extracted perfectly, the milk temperature is also right and blends perfectly with the espresso that makes the cafe latte tastes sweet even without adding sugar.

 

• My Mexican Cousin : this dish is a fusion of OZ style brunch staple, corn fritters and poached egg, with mexican style corn & cucumber salsa, and kasundi (indian style tomato chutney). The corn fritters are pretty good though it's lacking of crunchiness and poached eggs are cooked perfectly. However the kasundi doesn't mix well with the rest of the dish.  

All in all, Mr Bacon rating for St.Ali is 3.5 bacon out of 5, which is ALMOST BACONLY GOOD. The coffee is excellent, but the food needs a little more kick. To be fair we ordered only one meal that day, so we think we have come back to this place again later to try out more of their food.
